HISTORY

Oxford Evangelical Free Church began on March 15, 1981, and met for a few months in the Pleasant Heights meeting room.  In the fall of 1981, we moved into the building where Village Mercantile is now located.

Nine Evangelical Free Churches helped the church get started and gave us much-needed advice and help:  Alma, Emmaus (Funk), Keene (Axtell), McCook, Orleans, Stamford, Trinity (Holdrege), Westmark (Loomis), and Wilcox.  In February 1985, we became a self-supporting church and were granted autonomy by the Midwest District of the EFCA.

After 14 years of meeting in downtown Oxford, we built and moved into our church building at 1107 Central Street in 1995.

Since our beginning, we have tried to serve our community by having some kind of children's club to partner with parents in teaching children about the Bible—and specifically about Jesus.  In the beginning, it was an AWANA club, and more recently it has been Kids' Club.
